June’s story 3368
Altar of Change 37,432 (only 500+ words)
The scene I’m writing should be easier than it is. It’s very relevant to my life right now. However, there’s just so much emotion there that I’m trying my best to capture something that may be elusive. At the very least, it’s something that your average reader probably just won’t understand.
I hate to think that I may be alienating readers by going into themes that are too pagan, too kinky, too dark, but I don’t feel like I can write this particular story any other way. To dull or dumb it down would be a disservice to where I think the story can go. It will just be a limited market, I suppose. I’m OK with that.
Then I look at Cherie Priest, who can mix crazy genres into a beautiful amalgamation of literary happiness, and I feel better about writing something that may not be mainstream.
EDIT: Also, my goal here is not to get up to NaNo speed (about 2000 words/day), but just to get back into the habit of writing every day. At the very least, I do hope to have reached 40,000 by November 1st. 🙂
