December New Moon- Tarot Cards

This is a continuation of my new moon bibliomancy practice, where I choose a random passage in The Woman’s Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects to focus on for the next lunation.

For this moon cycle, I chose ‘tarot cards’. This one is really funny to me. I’ve been thinking a lot about tarot lately, wondering if it’s worth continuing to try to give professional readings. It’s difficult to find new clients, and I’ve really tried. (and tried.. and tried…) I love my existing clients, but they just don’t need readings enough for me to really make a living off of tarot.

I could try the psychic lines again, but clients there tend to ask the most superficial of questions and give bad ratings if they don’t like your answer. And I tend to be really honest about what the cards show me. I don’t make things up because it’s what a client would like to hear. So I worry that working the psychic hotlines would leave me jaded and burnt out on tarot in general. I don’t want that, obviously.

There also aren’t any places near me to read in person. The nearest place that I know is looking for readers is over an hour away, and honestly, I’m not that great at getting out of the house anyways. Knowing that the drive would cut into my profits in terms of gas money just seals the idea that reading live and in person isn’t necessarily for me.

So I’m stuck. I can keep sending people to my Etsy shop, where Etsy takes a huge percentage of my money, or I could stop altogether.

Yesterday, however, I got a new order from a new client in a different country. She apparently just happened upon my reading (I’ve given up on trying to beat the Etsy algorithm, so she had to search for my keywords or something). I did her reading, and she resonated with it so deeply that she ordered a second reading.

So when that happens, it makes me feel like I’m still on the right track. Enough to leave my Etsy shop open, at the very least. I just can’t help but think that there’s some trick that I’m missing.

So, long story short, December’s lunation is a time for me to think about tarot. Maybe it would be a good time to get back into reading for myself- something I haven’t done in a long while. Maybe it’s time to take stock of my skills and see how best to sell them to others. Maybe it’s time to finally start working on the learning tarot course I’ve been wanting to put together.

Either way December= tarot. Any ideas would be welcome.. Blessed be!
